 Dance Magic – April Newsletter

COSTUMES

Again, a huge thank-you to our wonderful dance Moms; many of you have worked incredibly hard pulling together the final details of our costumes.  As always, we have done our very best to keep the cost of costumes at a reasonable rate.  In some cases, your costume may have gone over our initial deposit.  Once we have calculated the final cost of your costume, we ask that you are prompt in taking care of any additional fees that may apply.  We are working to have all costumes handed out before April 15th!  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete the finishing touches that will make your dancer look and feel fabulous on stage!

DRESS REHEARSALS! 
  During the week of May 3rd-6th ALL classes will be held at the Memorial Center. *DANCERS WILL NOT COME TO CLASS AT THE COLLICUTT THIS WEEK.  This time on stage will be your dancers DRESS REHEARSAL.  Proper attendance during dress rehearsals is imperative. Dancer’s are required to come dressed in FULL costume. This means all hair pieces, hats, tights, underwear, ect. should be worn. Hair should be placed (not curled) and make-up does not need to be done.  Dancers are required to arrive 30min prior to their stage time.  They will run through their dance in the front foyer of the Memorial Center before going on stage for their dress rehearsal run through. This is a great opportunity to bring grandma, grandpa, friends and relatives who may not be able to attend the show.

SHOW WEEK!

TAKE 1 – May 7 -Arrive @ 5:15. May 8 – Arrive @ 12:00

TAKE 2 – May 10th and 11th – Arrive @ 5:15

TAKE 3 – May 12th and 13th – ARRIVE @ 5:15

** All dancers must enter through FESTIVAL HALL

SURVEY FORMS:

We are now asking for your feedback regarding our 2009/10 season and looking to know your dancers’ intentions for the upcoming dance season.  We value these surveys as they assist us in determining our new 2010 schedule.  As a studio we constantly strive for improvement.  Your feedback is appreciated as we believe it is a stepping stone to our success.

LOST AND FOUND

We have several pairs of shoes and clothing items in the Lost & Found this year.  If you have a dancer in Hip Hop please remember to ask them what they are wearing on their feet. We are still seeing lots of dancers in sock feet!  BLACK SHOES ARE REQUIRED!

PICTURES

As many of you know, we are no longer using the Photo Pre-Order Form method. An order form and an 8×10 proof sample sheet will be sent home with your dancer 2-4 weeks after their shoot.  Photos will no longer be available to view in the boardroom.  We are excited to offer you the luxury of ordering from home! Order forms and proof sample sheets can then be returned to the Dance Magic office at your convenience. We will be taking orders up to and including MAY 13TH 2010. *Note* an additional $5 fee will be added to any orders placed after May 13th. All orders will then be mailed to your home once completed (mail outs will be completed by Family not by individual dancer).

SHOW DVD

          Again this year, our show will be professionally video recorded by Drew and Kerri Kenworthy of Sight and Sound Creations.  Cost of the DVD is $30.00 + $5.00 shipping and handling.  Receive a $5 discount on any additional ‘TAKES’ purchased.   DVD’s will be distributed via mail throughout the summer break.  All orders will need to be prepaid directly to Dance Magic Studio.  Order forms are available at the studio but will also be available at the Memorial Center.                                    Purchasing this DVD is not only a wonderful lasting memory of your year with the studio but also great for sharing with friends and family at home. 

STAR MOM

The sign-up sheets are now out on the bulletin board upstairs.  We require a MINIMUM of 2 moms per class to be backstage each night of the performance.  Should you choose to volunteer one of the performance evenings, you would then enjoy the show the alternate night. Catching a behind the scenes look of our show can truly be a great experience!

TICKETS:  As most of you know, tickets have already gone on sale at the BLACK KNIGHT INN TICKET CENTER.  Ticket prices are as follows:  Adults= $17 and Children under 12= $11.00 (children under 3 are FREE if they will sit on your lap).  You can purchase tickets on-line (www.blackknightinn.ca), by phone (403-343-6666), or in person.  Be sure YOU know what “Take” you are wishing to attend because the Black Knight Inn employees do NOT.  All seats are reserved so please do not leave this too late.  A limited number of PARTIAL show tickets are also available through the DANCE MAGIC OFFICE.

5,10&15 YEAR AWARDS

We have a large number of dancers set to receive their five, ten and fifteen year recognition awards.  If it is your year to be recognized for an award, please see the bulletin board to confirm and let us know which of the six performance nights you would like your dancer to be recognized at.  It is very important that you let us know as it is possible that we have made mistakes in our calculations.  We would hate to miss recognizing your dancers amazing commitment and dedication to dance.

 SUMMER CAMPS!

July 26- 30 Dancers age 3-6yr.

  Experience song & dance in Muiscal Theater, basic technique in Jazz/Ballet and creative fun in Arts & Crafts.  We’ve put it all together in this fun filled five day camp! **Each group will run for 1-2hrs depending on age.  Register today @ the Dance Magic office.

JULY 14-16 – Dancers age 7-9yr.

9:00am-12:00pm. Come experience Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap and Funk with our fun and upbeat teaching staff!  

JULY 14-16 – Dancers age 10-13yr.

12:30pm-3:30pm. Come try out Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop classes in this fun 3 day camp!

AUGUST 11-13- Dancers age 14+

10:00am-4:00pm Intermediate/Advanced Level

Come get your sweat on with this day long, fun filled and incredibly intense dance camp! We will be doing Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Modern and Pilates!

BACKSTAGE AND RUNNERS

 If you want the excitement of backstage; and organizing the hundreds of dancers we move to and from the stage; please let Christine know ASAP.  We are in need of stage crew as well as front of house greeters/seaters!

Thank-you to all of the families who have helped to make this year a success!  We appreciate your positive influence and support in getting your dancers to and from class, week after week.  We feel so fortunate to be surrounded by many wonderful dancers and their families.  We are also very lucky to be working with such a talented and committed group of teachers.  Everyone has been very excited about our year end show and incredibly grateful that we are able to show case your dancer’s talent.               Again, please don’t hesitate to call the studio or myself directly if you have any problems, questions or concerns.  If you are new to the studio we understand there is a lot to learn; especially during show time.  We are all here to help so please contact us with any questions you may have!
