Welcome to Dance Magic Studio’s 2010-2011 dance season. A very warm welcome to all of our new students and families – we look forward to meeting you soon. To all of our returning dancers; we hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer break!
EXCITING NEWS!
Dance Magic is thrilled to be announcing the opening of a second studio location this Fall!! In addition to our regular classes at the Collicutt Center, we will also be holding classes from our new NORTH RED DEER location. (Next to Fantasy Costumes in Heritage Plaza – 6200 – 67A St)
WHERE DO I REGISTER?
We will be at the Red Deer Farmer’s Market (in front of the Curling Rink) every Saturday morning and at the Collicutt Centre on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (in the front foyer of the West entrance). REGISTRATION HAS ALREADY BEGUN – VISIT US TODAY! We will be happy to discuss your dance requirements and allow you to take a look at our schedule during these times. 8 WEEK CLASSES Our 8 week programs will end with a watching night at the studio for family and friends during regular dance time. Dancers 5 years and older may continue in a full year class if they choose. Please see the “Program” section of this newsletter for further details. No costumes are required for our fall 8 week sessions.
PROGRAMS
Full year Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Break Dance, Cheer Dance, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, ALL Boys, Modern, Guitar, Piano and Voice programs are available. For dancers under 8 years old: the classes are usually 30 minutes while older dancers dance for 45 minutes. We also offer 8 week introductory programs in all of the above. We suggest 3-5 year olds do a fall 8 week program and then return for another 8 week program in the Winter or Spring. A full year (eight month) program can be a long time for the little ones. If you register as a “Trial” student you will have the opportunity to decide if your dancer would like to continue in the class for the Full Year or stop after the first 2 months of lessons.
WITHDRAWL POLICY
(FULL YEAR CLASSES ONLY): One month notice from the first of the month is required to discontinue any classes. In order for a refund to be given, notice of the withdrawal must be given in person and a withdrawal form must be completed at the studio office – not with the teacher. Dance Magic Studio reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In such case, a refund for unused lessons will be given. No withdrawals will be accepted or refunds honoured after March 15th 2011.
ADULT CLASSES
We have several Adult dance classes including Hip Hop/Jazz Combo, Tap and Dance & Fitness. Adult classes generally run in the evenings however some of our Dance Fitness classes will also be running in the daytime. Put your son or daughter in class and jump into one of your own right next door!! This is a great way to keep active and learn something new and exciting each week.
DANCE ATTIRE
Leotards and tights are preferred for younger dancers – no sloppy tops. Jazz pants, bike shorts, capri’s and work out tops are great, but absolutely no jeans! T-shirts must tight fitting. BE SURE TO PUT YOUR NAME ON BOTH DANCE SHOES!!! Long hair must be tied back and short hair pinned back or in a headband with bangs and side pieces out of the eyes. Dancers who continue to ignore dress standards will be asked to sit out.

Listed below are the required dance shoes for various dance disciplines:
Jazz – Black Jazz Shoes (Jazz oxfords
Tap – Black Tap Shoes
Jazz/Ballet – Black Gymnastic Slippers
Lyrical – Beige Jazz Shoes
Hip Hop – Black Running Shoes–NO WHITE LACES/PINK SOLES ETC. The shoe must be entirely BLACK
Contemporary – Skin coloured foot
Musical Theater – Black Gymnastic slippers or black jazz shoes for older dancers
Breakdance – Clean indoor running shoes
Attire: Jeans and hats are acceptable for breakdance classes ONLY.
Mom & Me: Black or Pink Gymnastics slippers
Adult Dance Fitness & Hip Hop/Jazz: clean indoor running shoes
Cheer Dance: White running shoes
Adult Tap: Tap shoes

USED DANCE SHOES
The best time to sell is at the beginning of the year, so dig through those drawers! PLEASE bring outgrown dance shoes to us ASAP. September is too late to sell as parents want to have purchased shoes before dance classes begin. There will be a table to display used shoes at the Collicutt Centre every Tuesday in August. If you would like to sell something, please pin an envelope with your name, phone number, item name, size and price to the item. All profits from the items sold are then returned to the seller.
YEAR END SHOW
Our year end recital is held during the week of May 6th – 12th. Please mark this week on your calendar. Exact details of “Takes” will be posted later in the season.
BIRTHDAY PARTY PACKAGES!
Looking for something creative and new this year? Book one of our birthday party packages! 45minutes of dance instruction in the discipline of your choice followed by 1hr in the studio for cake, presents and play! Available at our North location only (#5 6200 67A St, Heritage Plaza). Cost is $10 per child with a $100 minimum. Contact us for additional details!

PAYMENTS
Payment for the ENTIRE YEAR must be paid at the time of registration. For all Full Year and Trial Students we offer Automatic Withdrawal. We require ONE VOID chq and a signature to authorize the monthly withdrawal. Dance Fees would then be automatically debited from your account on either the 1st or 15th (Sept-April) of each month. As a “Trial” student, if you decide to withdrawal from your class after the two month period your fees will be stopped with no withdrawal fee as long as notice is given to the office before the 1st of the upcoming month. Please see the automatic payment form included on the bottom of your registration form for additional details. ALL fees and Automatic Payment forms MUST be received with your registration form or before September 1st. Please remember, your space will NOT be reserved until full payment is received. There is a $15.00 bank service charge for all returned cheques.
NEWS & UPDATES Messages, class schedules, etc are always posted well in advance on the bulletin board upstairs and in our display cases. Please check them regularly (especially older dancers whose parents do not come upstairs). Parents PLEASE be sure to include your email address to receive updates via email. All newsletters and updated class information is available on our website.
WATCHING NIGHTS
We know how much our dancers, friends and families, love to watch class. Unfortunately, this can be very distracting for both the dancers and teachers. We must be firm on asking you to stay in the waiting area during class time. Once each month, we will invite you in to watch for the last 10 minutes of class. These dates will be posted on the bulletin board and on our website.
COSTUMES Please be aware that for our year end recital, your dancer will require one costume per dance discipline. It is important that you realize if you are in more than one dance discipline, you will require more than one costume. Costume deposits are due in January 2011.
YEARLY FEES (8 Months)
Registration Fee = $15.00/family/year (must be paid upon registration)
30 Minute Class = $39.00/month
45 Minute Class = $44.00/month
60 Minute Ballet = $47.00/month 1.25hr Stretch & Tech = $48/month *** If you have a DANCER in more than 2 classes receive a $40 discount on each additional class.
8 WEEK CLASS FEES
30 Minute 8 Week Programs = $70.00 + yearly registration fee
45 Minute 8 Week Programs = $74.00 + yearly registration fee
REGISTER NOW!! Please return your forms to us before August 23rd. Be sure to include the $15 registration fee along with your yearly payments in order to ensure your space in the class. In most cases we have included your dance time and day on your registration postcard. Although we remain a non-competitive Studio, we do try to organize classes with age, ability and personalities in mind. The teachers have made recommendations and suggested certain movement in order to give the dancers their best possible experience with us. Please know that, there is a good possibility we will continue to move dancers during the first couple of weeks in class. This movement becomes especially important when dancers are trying new dance disciplines. As well, we may combine classes as numbers deem necessary. Your patience and understanding while we find the BEST CLASS FOR YOUR DANCER is much appreciated. Remember your space is NOT RESERVED until we receive your registration form!

**Please be sure to come into the studio with your dancer on the first day of dance classes. All of our teachers have been very excited to meet their dancers/parents and will be inviting you into the studio for the first few minutes of class.
