MEET THE OWNER
Miss Christine Slaymaker
Dance has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up training in many disciplines, but ballet was always my first love. That passion led me to participate in Ballet BC’s Mentor Program and eventually to Toronto, where I pursued a career in dance, completed my STOTT Pilates certification, and later spent just over two years performing as a dancer aboard cruise ships.
In my 20s, I found my way to Dance Magic and today, more than 20 years later, I’m still lucky enough to call this special place home.
While I will always love dance and music, what I love most is what happens because of it. I love watching kids discover confidence they didn’t know they had, find friendships and a place to belong, learn to work through challenges, and carry those lessons with them long after they leave the studio.
It has been such an honour to continue the legacy of Dance Magic and help build upon what this studio has always been about: using the performing arts to help raise confident, resilient and kind humans who are ready to shine on whatever stage life puts in front of them.
I especially love creating programs and opportunities that serve the whole family and give kids different ways to discover what lights them up. Seeing families grow up within our community and knowing that Dance Magic gets to be part of those years is something I never take for granted.
Together with my husband, Rylie, we own and operate Dance Magic Studio and its sister company, Arts In Motion Performing Arts Childcare Centre. When we’re not at the studio or dreaming up new possibilities, you’ll usually find us in nature with our three girls and golden retriever, soaking up family time. Our businesses and our family have grown alongside one another over the years, which makes the community we’ve built and the families we’ve had the privilege of growing alongside even more meaningful to us.
And at the heart of all of it is our incredible team. Dance Magic is what it is because of the people who show up every day and pour their talent, care and hearts into our students and families. I’m so grateful for them, for the community we’ve built together, and for the privilege of getting to do work that I truly love.
After more than 20 years, Dance Magic still feels like home and one of my greatest joys is making sure it feels that way for others, too.
I’m so proud to introduce you to the incredible people who bring Dance Magic to life every day – our Dance Magic family…
MEET THE DANCE MAGIC TEAM
Miss Ali
I have been dancing at Dance Magic since I was four. Then I became an assistant teacher in my early teens and now a dance teacher. I’ve loved dancing and growing up at the studio and I am excited to keep my passion alive while teaching my students. My favourite discipline is Modern I love the freedom of it and how it can turn into a gentle sentimental piece or a creepy dance. When I am out of the dance studio you can find me at Arts In Motion, working for the Rebels or baking.
Miss Alysha
One of my favourite parts about being a dance teacher is seeing my students discover their own talents, creativity and resilience that will help them in and outside the studio. Dance has always been a significant part of my life, from twirling around as a baby ballerina to taking the stage as a competitive dancer I knew I needed to be a dance teacher. Ballet is my passion and I carried that into the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance once I completed my ballet exams. My favourite things to do outside of the studio included crafting, reading, spending time outside and making memories with my family.
I grew up dancing at Dance Magic and began teaching in my late teens, so the studio has always felt like a second home. With a degree in education and experience in the classroom, I have a deep love for teaching, leadership, and helping young people grow in confidence and creativity.
I love building connections with my students and watching them grow within the same studio that helped shape who I am today. I also have a background in aerial acrobatics and love the strength, confidence, and sense of adventure that comes from silks, lyra, and trapeze. Outside the studio, I love spending time with my family and my goldendoodle Milo, running my small business, trying new recipes, and connecting with friends and my community.
Dance has always been such a special part of my life, and I’m so grateful to now share that love with my dancers. I love being creative, whether that’s through dance, colouring, or simply getting lost in a good book. When I’m not in the studio, you can usually find me enjoying the outdoors and soaking up the little moments.
I love getting to teach not only dance, but also confidence, creativity, and life skills. Seeing my dancers grow, find their confidence, and succeed both in and out of the studio truly makes my heart happy. Nothing makes me happier than dancing it out!
I started dancing here at a young age, joined the Step Program in my early teens, and eventually progressed into a teaching role. One of my favourite parts of being an instructor is sharing my love of dance while building meaningful relationships with my students and their families. When I’m not teaching, you’ll often find me spending time with my daughter, getting lost in a good book, or working as an Educational Assistant!
For me, Dance Magic has always been more than just a studio, it’s been a safe space and a second home. I feel incredibly grateful to now provide that same supportive environment for my students and to share my passion for dance with them. When I’m not teaching, you can find me working toward my nursing degree or spending time with friends.
I’ve been dancing my whole life in Airdrie at Ambition Performing Arts, and dance has always been such a big part of who I am. I’m so excited to be part of the Dance the Magic family this year and to share my love of dance with all of the students! Dance has always been my first love, and I can’t wait to help spread that same passion and joy to them. I also work in the office, so you’ll probably see me around the studio a lot! When I’m not in the studio my favourite things to do are taking my dog for walks or going out to watch a good new movie. I’m so excited for this year!
MEET OUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM
Miss Shelby – Studio Coordinator
I started dancing at the age of three and grew up immersed in the dance world, developing a lifelong love for movement and performing! I’ve been teaching for several years now, and love sharing that passion with the next generation of dancers. You’ll find me teaching a variety of dance disciplines, and I am also certified in Module 1 and 2 of the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus. I’m passionate about creating a positive, encouraging environment where dancers can build confidence, strengthen their technique, and discover their own love for dance. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me in the studio office, outdoors, or spending time on my family farm.
