Dance Magic Studio School of Music and Dance is expanding, building a new 6000 square foot studio in North Red Deer. The new location is at 6731 52nd Ave across from Save On Foods.
“Our current space at Heritage Plaza in Red Deer offers just two music teaching rooms and one dance room and we are operating at full capacity,” says Christine Slaymaker, owner of Dance Magic. “We didn’t anticipate the rapid growth we experienced in both our dance and music programs in such a short period of time. This new studio will help us to meet the demand for dance and music lessons, welcoming more students and offering more programs.”
The new space will host six teaching rooms for music, two dance rooms with professionally sprung floors and viewing windows, as well as a spacious and comfortable foyer. The new creative learning space will also provide room for pre-school programs with a performing arts focus, which Dance Magic will launch in the Fall of 2015.
Dance Magic will continue to offer regular classes out of the Collicutt location but will move all the current classes at the Heritage Plaza studio to the new studio space. “The new studio will be a lot more convenient for Dance Magic families that live in Northern Red Deer as the City continues to expand,” notes Slaymaker. “It will be a more direct commute for families living in the new areas of Clearview, Timberstone and Garden Heights.”
The expansion will allow the growing school to accommodate additional programs and offer a new variety of lessons for musical instruments. Banjo and Ukelele will be added to the list of musical lessons that already includes Voice, Piano and Guitar. The first new dance program Dance Magic will add to its line up is the in-demand Acrobatic Dance, an athletic style of dance that combines acrobatic movements with dance technique, stretching and conditioning.
Over the last 26 years, Dance Magic has grown to serve more than 1,300 dancers and musicians in Red Deer. In 2010 the studio increased its learning space after outgrowing the Collicutt Centre to add classes at Heritage Plaza.
“The new space will allow us to offer more to our community and to schedule more efficiently,” says Slaymaker. “We’ll be able to offer music and dance under one roof in a great facility which will save families valuable time. It will also allow us to schedule and bundle more classes for families who have dancers or musicians in different programs.”
Construction on the new studio location began in June. Classes will start at the new location upon completion this Winter.
