With our big year end show almost upon us, I thought it might be fun to talk to some of our long time dancers about what it’s been like to dance with Dance Magic for so many years! We have lots of dancers celebrating 5 years with Dance Magic this year, even quite a few celebrating 10 years – but there are 3 dancers celebrating 15 years, and even 1 dancer who has been with Dance Magic for 20 years! Wow what an achievement!
This week I spoke with Brittany Funk who has been a Dance Magic dancer for 15 years now. Here’s an adorable peak at Brittany from years ago when she started dancing with Miss Val at Dance Magic – so cute Brittany!!
This is what Brittany shared with me when I spoke with her about her 15 years with Dance Magic:
Who was your first teacher at Dance Magic?
“Miss Val – but I can’t remember what my first dance was. It was a long time ago! It was a jazz class though.”
Who was your favorite teacher?
“Oh Miss Val – she was just really great!”
What dances have you done throughout the years and what dances are you doing this year?
“I’ve done jazz, lyrical, modern and hip hop – this year I’m dancing jazz, lyrical and modern.”
What was your favorite dance routine that you performed?
“Oh that was a lyrical dance we did to Man in the Mirror, I loved that one!”
What was your favorite costume?
“My modern class this year with Miss Anna, we have this really cool black turtleneck costume! It’s like all lace on the torso and then it has shorts. “
What is your favorite memory in all your years with Dance Magic?
“The best thing about Dance Magic is the family atmosphere. Everyone there remembers you and looks forward to seeing you every week. They really encourage you to do well and want to see you thrive and move forward. They want to see you do well in whatever you want to do, it’s really like a family!”

If you’re looking for classes for your little ones, there is an upcoming Spring into Summer Session! It’s 6 weeks long for kids age 3-5 years, as well as a Mom and Me for 2-3 year olds and a Musical Magic class for babies 5months-4 years. There is a new evening class Musical Magic class this year from 4:30-5:00pm! Check out the website or stop by the studio for more information on registering for any of these classes!
Registration for summer music classes has also begun, as well as summer camps! There are so many different summer camps available that you really can find something for everyone. There’s even a fun-filled overnight camp held out in the woods near Nordegg for dancers aged 11-12 and 13+ years. It’s 2 nights and 3 days of outdoor fun and dancing, truly a unique and thrilling adventure for any dancer! Check out our website for lots of pictures and info on this exciting camp adventure!
Don’t forget that our last photo weekend is coming up next week! We are using Lifetouch this year and because we’re able to have two studios set up for taking pictures, things are running extra quickly this year! Please be sure to arrive at least a half an hour early, with all of your hair and make-up complete. The photos so far have been beautiful – here’s a quick peak at some adorable little dancers getting all set for their first photo shoot. How sweet are these cuties?
